This is the last time for a while --- I promise

I went shopping at Costco the other day and bought two more things. They were very cute and only six or seven dollars each. I promise to stop buying clothes for awhile, at least until we submit our dossier.

BTW, if our homestudy visit is tomorrow, how long do you think it will take until we get the finished product so I could submit our I-600? How long was yours?

I stock up on clothes at the after season clearances--I just bought next year's swim suits for $1.00 each for the younger kids.

The amount of time between visit and completed homestudy depends on a lot of things. Our provider typed as we talked and had a rough draft right then but we had to wait for the fingerprint results, abuse check clearances and all that so it was almost a month. You can end up waiting on references too.

We had only 1 home visit, and the first draft of the Home Study was finished in 3 weeks. Then it took another week to receive a finished HS. Though I read from other people blogs that sometimes it takes more time...

The outfits are very cute. And for this price you just had to get them :)

Cute outfits!
Our homestudy took a long time to complete...very long story..suffice it to say, she was inexperienced at doing homestudies for international adoption...and we paid the price with an intermindable wait!
We went ahead and submitted our I-161 BEFORE the homestudy was complete. Once the homestudy was done, we sent it in on a Thursday and got our paperwork for our appointment on Tuesday, had our fingerprints done on Wednesday and had our I-171H in our hands a week later. A lot of people don't suggest doing it that way. It worked for us, but we may have just gotten lucky! :)

We were able to make the homestudy go faster because I asked if it would help if I typed the answers to the questions and e-mailed them to her. She was able to cut and paste what I wrote into her additions and we got it rather quickly... I am talking singular, but for what it's worth I did this both with our adoption homestudy and the one we did with the state for fostering. You might ask - I know you can write and type! :)

It took us 3 weeks to get our homestudy complete. We sent the I600 application in the day of our first homestudy visit. We had our fingerprint appointment a week later. That way, when the homestudy was complete, everything was done. It took less than a week to get the approval letter.

We turned in our I-600a application when we started our HS. We hoped to get the finger printing done while we waited for the HS, but this didn't happen. Though it really didn't do anything for us, I'd still recommend getting started sooner than later. Most USCIS offices state that it'll take up to three months to process the I-600a. The FBI puts a priority on the background check and ours was back the same day it was submitted by the USCIS. I had to push the USCIS to get us our 171H.
I hope yours goes smoother than ours.

We had our INS approval within a week of fingerprinting. This was from the Boston office.
