2008 Quotas for Ukraine

Children under 6 available to ENTIRE U.S. is ONLY 32 children!!!.
Ages 6-9 - 83 adoptions
Ages over 10 - 115 adoptions
Siblings with one of children under 6 - 92 adoptions
Siblings over 6 - 138 adoptions
TOTAL - 460 children

What have you heard? What do you think? Does this include children with special needs, children over age 13, and siblings of children already adopted and here in the US?

I guess it doesn't really matter, because it is pretty sad that Ukraine even has a quota.

That is awful. What does your agency say?

I can't believe they have those quotas. That is very sad. Why can't all children be given an opportunity to find a home?

That's the craziest thing I have ever heard. That makes me so sad to hear that quota's exist!

I am very sad about this, too. My facilitator said we need to send our dossier in ASAP so we can make it to get Grisha so now I am about to have a heart attack! We haven't officially started our paperwork so now I am getting worried and feeling sick. It may be late spring before we can actually submit the dossier. Oh, please pray that they will do away with this. This is so horrible when there are so many children that need homes.

Just found your blog today, and yes that is what our agency had heard as well. Although devastating to adoptive families, Ukraine, as well as most of Eastern Eurpeon Countries are on a HUGE population decline. This is one step by the government to keep their children there and also hopefully reflects less children being placed in the orphanage system. There are also campaigns to help families be able to care for their children, President Yushenko is even offering more money from the government for the third child in a home. Those of us who have been fortunate to be touched by adoption realize that it is only a stop gap measure until the country of origin fixes it's social and economic problems. Be praying for the local church in Ukraine to step forward and love and care for these children! I love your blog! Keep up the good work!
