We made it to JFK!

First off, today is John's birthday! Happy, happy birthday honey! You don't look a day over 39!

This is all the luggage we have. In case we get to bring home Dennis this trip, we didn't want to have too much luggage. Back when we adopted Anna and Sveta in Sept 2005, we took the max luggage allowed and had a heck of a time hauling it out of the airport. Miss Anna had decided to refuse to help us carry luggage and our then scared little girl acted like she would run off so John had to carry her too on top of our four suitcases and two carry ons. You can say we learned our lesson, and packed lighter this time.

As a birthday dinner in LAX, John chose to eat at El Cholo's (only option over pizza). While waiting for our food to come we saw a lady not more than 50 feet from us holding her son up to a trash can so he could pee in it. It was so obvious........ and disgusting. Can't you tell by John's expression? I know, we should have taken a picture of the mom and son.

We managed to still enjoy our yummy chicken tortilla soup and chewy chile verde.

Here is John walking to our international terminal in humid, sticky New York.

And here I am blogging to all of you! Internet access for 6 hours. Best nine bucks I've ever spent. Just kidding.

Hi kids! We love you! Thanks for the comments!

You did really well on packing! You'll be glad when you are going up and down all those stairs in the train station in Kiev.

Have a safe trip. We'll be praying for a smooth adoption journey:)

You are about 45min-1 hour from where I live. I bet you fly over my house. I will look up and wave.

Funny thing, I am a native Californian who transplanted to NC 4 years ago. It is way humid in NC! Ugh. Anyway, I guess I am used to some of it now because I was at Laguardia airport today returning home from a NYC trip and thought it was pleasant! haha.

Double ew on the trash pee. What in the world!?!?!?

Can't wait to read the next part of your journey!!!

Okay Christine and John, still wondering if your paperwork is only for ONE more little Reed! Doesn't that van have seating for fifteen? (To the Reed kids, I'm just joking...only Dennis is part of the Ukraine Train, this trip.)

Hang on to your comments about kids peeing into trash cans....little Dennis may have to rather than the gross toilet on the train! Ya know, things usually have a way of coming back at ya. lol Can't wait to read updates and see more pics of the newest member of the Reed clan.

JFK is a horrible airport! But you look like you are taking it in stride! Going through security at JFK on the way out the country has been much worse than coming back into the country through JFK and going through customs.

Almost there!
Happy birthday!

I hope you all are enjoying your trip as much as possible - airports are always a trial! But it's for such a sweet cause. I sure hope you get to bring Dennis home this trip - for his sake, to get him HOME, and for yours, no more travel :p !

Happy Birthday brother! Brad said he sent you an email too. Love to you all!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY TO JOHN!

Are there not enough bathrooms that you have to use a trash can in front of everyone? I have never seen that - not even in Ukraine.

LOVE THE PICTURES and glad you are doing well. :)

♡ That's just crazy! Surely they have restrooms at JFK?

Thanks for updating! Looks like fun. I don't know why, but though the agencies always act like adoption trips are pure hell and oh-so-serious, Craig and I always have had a lot of fun. And the more I think of it the more appropriate that seems... A child, even one nearly two years old, should be "conceived" in the midst of happiness, joy and love.

Taking pictures of yourself blogging makes you a true, die-hard blogger! :) I think I'm glad you didn't take pictures of the kid peeing in the trash can. Good grief! The bathroom couldn't have been THAT far away!
